Modern underwriting infrastructure for the Australian market - introducing Cuttleflow
Underwriting Agencies Council (UAC)
About this session
Presenter: Max Broodryk – Founder and Executive Director Australia’s insurance trading infrastructure — the systems where risk is priced, bound and reported — is concentrated in ageing platforms at a moment when both incumbents face ownership upheaval. This session examines what a modern system for an underwriting agency looks like and what it changes in practice: a broker’s submission read from the form rather than re-typed; straight-through quoting on deterministic rules, so the same risk gets the same answer every time; automated referrals; built-in sanctions screening, tax and billing; and a decision record that cannot be altered after the fact. It also shows how those same records produce the insurer’s monthly bordereau, and what that means for the diligence questions capacity providers put to an agency. It then looks at how an agency brings a new product to market in weeks rather than months, and how digital intake — broker email, web forms and connections from third-party systems — feeds the underwriting system without rekeying. The session closes with a live walkthrough of Cuttleflow’s underwriting platform and how UAC members — agencies, brokers and business service providers — can connect. 45–50 minutes plus Q&A. By the end of this session, participants will be able to: Describe the current structure of Australia’s insurance trading infrastructure and why it is changing now. Explain how deterministic rules engines, automated referrals, sanctions screening and audit ledgers change underwriting agency operations and compliance obligations. Explain how a single record running from submission to bordereau changes the evidence an agency can give its capacity providers and regulators. Assess the practical steps, benefits and considerations for an agency, broker or business service member adopting modern underwriting infrastructure.
