About this session
The Victorian Annual Scientific Research Awards provide an opportunity for young doctors, medical students and SIMGs from across Victoria to present scientific research as oral and poster presentations in front of a panel of Surgeons. Participants can select their own research topic within the context of healthcare across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. Multiple prizes are awarded including the D R Leslie Prize, R C Bennett Prize, DCAS Scholarship, Medical Student Prize, and Victorian Photography Prize.
Presentation Dates
Abstract deadline - 2 October, 2026. Notified of outcome - 23 October, 2026. Research Papers Day & Awards dinner - 20 November, 2026. The 2026 Scientific Research Awards are now closed.
Awards
D R Leslie Prize: best clinical paper by Victorian registered Surgical Trainee. R C Bennett Prize: best laboratory research by Victorian medical student, unaccredited registrar, or accredited trainee. DCAS Scholarship: for Victorian medical students demonstrating interest in academic surgery. Medical Student Prize: best presentation by Victorian medical student. Victorian Photography Prize: best photo in career or contribution to surgery.
Eligibility
Open to young doctors, medical students and SIMGs from across Victoria. Research theme: free selection within context of healthcare across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
