Introduction to Matrescence: OT perspective on the transition to motherhood

Occupational Therapy Australia (OTA)

About this session

This interactive 90-minute workshop introduces occupational therapists to matrescence—the biopsychosocial, spiritual and occupational transition into motherhood. Participants will apply OT frameworks to examine how identity, environment and societal factors shape maternal wellbeing, and learn practical strategies to embed matrescence-informed approaches into their existing practice.

Key Learning Objectives

Identify occupational nature of perinatal mental health and OT intervention opportunities. Examine societal and systemic factors affecting maternal participation.
